Who Wears the Pants?

Pants have gone through many fashion changes throughout history, from just simply be a pair of hose fastened to a doublet to what became "breeches" in the 16th century to what sailors have made popular in the 17th and 18th century and what we basically wear today. Pants can be long, short, low-waisted, high-wasted, fitted, loose, baggy, boot-cut, straight leg, and so on and so forth. All styles of course originally meant for men because women were not allowed to wear pants (and if you are of the religious variety, women still shouldn't wear pants, but that's only if you're into that sort of thing).

So this goes without saying, most -- if not all -- pants styles and designs are based off men's fashion, but of course today's society have to put negative connotations upon certain styles for they are perceived to be meant for only woman (i.e. fitted, tights/leggings, high-waisted -- which were all worn by men first). It did not become fashionable for women to wear pants (or trousers) until the later part of the 20th century (and if worn before then, only to do outdoor work).

Therefore, if you are not sure if a style of pant is not suitable for a man, there may be a strong possibility that men wore it first. And to be sure that I am not misconstrued, I am not writing this in order to make a group of people believe that it is wrong for women to wear pants; women, men, maybe even dogs can wear what they please -- as long as it is clean. This post is meant to inform, to open some minds and also to be a brief, yet entertaining, history lesson :)

P.S. -- If you are not aware, that is Michelle Pfeiffer in the photo above (dressed as a man), and if you do not know who Michelle Pfeiffer is... SHAME ON YOU!

  1. YASSSSS, Educate this hookers! LOL at the end of the day, whether something is made for a women or made for men, it's your choice to wear what the hell you want. Women wear men style clothing all the time. Their fashion is so diverse, but because men want to stick to one narrow type of look, we don't have much. I've said this before, if I see it and I like it I'm gonna buy it. I don't care what gender it's made for.

And Michelle Pfeiffer looks a lot like Angelina Jolie in the movie "Salt" when she disguises herself as a man. Both look good
