Xin - Sampaguita

I have, up until now, kept my music very private, very near and dear to myself. I've only shared my music with those who are close to me, and I have enjoyed keeping it this way. But this particular song I couldn't keep to myself.

This song is inspired by 2 different songs which have nothing at all to do with one another. The first song "I Remember" by Madonna and the second "My Heart Will Go On" by Celine Dion. For a long time I have been struggling with my sound and how I want execute it. I thought I didn't have the assets, the voice or the writing skill, to execute a meaningful or powerful song properly, so I clung helplessly to dance-pop music.

Yet... the morning had dawned and I was inspired!

This song is about peace, and finding peace after you have done someone wrong. That someone was something like a flower that you have picked and potted and placed upon your coffee table. You deprived the flower of growth, thus, it died. There are many types of deaths, but I believe the worst is dying deep within, still walking among the living with no hope, no dreams, no fears. To me, that is a very meaningless existence.

For you mourned for the flower, you regret what you've done, and you want to make peace. You want to make things right. You want to bring the flower back to life, for the flower was created to be at peace, yet you disturbed, so you wish for it to find peace again. To grow, to learn, and to know. Isn't that what love is all about?

So I present my very first song to you. It is one I am most proud with, and I believe that it can be enjoyed and related by many. I think it is one of those tunes that can accompany a major film sang by likes of Celine Dion or Leona Lewis, if I can be so bold ^_^

music and lyrics by Kimokeo X. Layton

You were breaking through the cracks
You had no room to grow
No light was pouring through the glass
Couldn’t see where you were at
Our love was all for show
Just another weed among the grass

Now all I have is an empty case
Filled with memories
If I only had the strength
To chase you down again
I’d say

I never meant to let you down, I’m trying
I never meant to put you down
I’m falling apart

We were falling into space
We had no time to grow
There was no light to guide our way
Then you began to fade
I opened the window
Then you chose to fly away

Will you find a space in time
For you to survive
If you ever find the strength
To sprout roots again
I’d say

I never meant to let you down, I’m trying
I never meant to put you down, I’m falling
I never meant to let you down, I’m trying
I never meant to put you down
I want to save your life
